What this site is

IRD Tax Guide NZ (ird-tax-nz.tatpenguin.xyz) is a free, independent guide cluster of 20 in-depth New Zealand tax guides. Every page is written to answer one practical question about New Zealand tax and Inland Revenue (IRD) processes in plain English — what the rule is, what the numbers are, what to do next, and which official page confirms it.

The site is free to use and free of accounts. There is no paywall, no newsletter capture and no lead form.

Who publishes it

This site is published independently by the operator of the tatpenguin.xyz family of informational websites (site index at tatpenguin.xyz). It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Inland Revenue, the New Zealand Government, or any of the product providers, platforms or firms mentioned in its guides.

We are not a tax agent or a person giving financial advice under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013. Our pages explain how the rules work in general; they do not take account of your income, tax position, entitlements or goals, and they are not a substitute for personalised advice from a qualified professional.

How the guides are researched

We write from primary sources rather than from other blogs. The sources used across this site are Inland Revenue (ird.govt.nz), Sorted (sorted.org.nz), business.govt.nz and the Financial Markets Authority (fma.govt.nz), together with product disclosure statements, scheme summaries and official legislation published on legislation.govt.nz. Where a figure changes — rates, thresholds, deadlines, contribution percentages — the guide is rewritten around the new figure and its effective date rather than being quietly patched.

Each guide states the year it applies to, and pages carry a "last updated" note. When we cite a number that matters, we link to the official page that carries it, so you can check it yourself before acting on it.

Editorial independence

Nothing on this site is written to please an advertiser. Commercial arrangements (advertising and, where labelled, affiliate links) are attached after the editorial content is written and never determine what a guide recommends, which option it says is better, or whether a product is mentioned at all. Our disclaimer and privacy policy set out the rules we hold ourselves to.

Corrections

Money rules change constantly and mistakes are possible. If you find something on this site that is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will fix it — send the correction to the publisher using the contact route in section 7 of our privacy policy. Corrections that change the substance of a guide are made to the page itself, promptly.

How the site is funded

The site is funded by display advertising and, where relevant, by affiliate or referral links that are labelled as such. Both are described in the privacy policy. If you use an affiliate link, the price you pay is the same as going direct; the difference is whether or not the site earns a small commission for the referral.

What we do not do
